The Ministry of Motherhood

Pastor Mary Jean Pidgeon

More than a job or responsibility … mothering is a ministry. It takes hard work and sacrifice to build the principles of God’s love and standards into another life. Many times we have become mothers at such a young age that we really aren’t prepared for such sacrifices, and added to this challenge is the fact that we may not always be dealing with ideal situations. Some mothers have to work full time jobs and still maintain the responsibilities of motherhood, while others are dealing with less than ideal relationship situations with their spouses.

So … how do we do it? How do we be the mothers God would have us be?

As I contemplated this question, it dawned on me that if motherhood is a ministry, then we have to accomplish our ministry just like anyone else … by not depending on our own strength or wisdom. No one called into a ministry has the ability to fulfill it on their own. God has always called them to a task beyond their natural strength. Why should motherhood be any different? When God calls, He anoints and the anointing furnishes what is needed. So, if God has called you into motherhood, then you have what is needed to do a good job. Don’t let the devil lie to you and tell you otherwise. You are the best person for the job! But, we do need to learn to ask God for wisdom and be willing to DO what His Word says. Trust Him, He won’t let you down.
